The Marks of a Real Man
The Marks of a Real Man
- A real man loves Jesus and loves as Jesus loved.
- The rich young ruler Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing you lack: go your way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. Jesus loved the rich and the poor.
- Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. I believe it is possible that Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus were poor or middle class. You remember that Martha was having to do all of the house work by herself, the is no mention of any servants.
- Jesus loved us to the end. We as men are to love our own to the end, wives, children, relatives and friends. When Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
- Real men eat together! They have fellowship. At the last supper we read in John 13:23 Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. (The apostle John) They were eating and fellowshipping together.
- John 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he said unto his mother, Woman, behold your Son! The implication here is that He loved His mother so much that saw to it that she would be provided for after His death. Real men provide for their own after they are gone.
- John 21:20 Then Peter, turning about, seeing the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrays You? A real man will not betray friends. We can take from Jesus’ example that a real man will seek out and develop friendships with other men and some times there will be a special friendship void of sexual desire, someone whom you are able to share with. Some one that loves you enough that you can trust to share some if not all of your deepest thoughts without fear of betraying your trust. Some title may be “Dutch Uncle” Adopted Dad” “Mentor” “Teacher” “Guru” etc.
- 2Thessalonians 2:16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace. A real man will console and encourage with grace.
- Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, Jesus Christ the real man loved us enough that He laid down His life that we may live.
. Real men glorify God
God’s Purpose for Creating People is that He be glorified.
Isaiah 43:7
Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created them for my glory, I have formed them; Yes, I have made them.
We accomplish God’s Purpose for Creating People by bearing much fruit.
John 15:5
Herein is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; so shall you be my disciples.
- The fruit that we bear is Spiritual
Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
- Much Fruit producing is accomplished as we abide in Christ
John 15:5
I am the vine, you are the branches: they that abide in me, and I in them, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.
- Keeping Christ’s commandments is Abiding in His Love
John 15:10
If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
- Continuing in Love -To BE in Love with Him (God)
Revelation 2:1-4
Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things says he that holds the seven stars in his right hand who walks in the midst of the seven golden lamp stands;
“I know your works, and your labor, and your patience, and how you can not bear them which are evil: and you have tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and have found them liars:
And have borne, and have patience, and for my name’s sake have labored, and have not fainted.
Nevertheless I have somewhat against you, because you have left your first love.
Remember therefore from where you are fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto you quickly, and will remove your lamp stand out of it’s place, except you repent.
But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.
They that have an ear, let them hear what the Spirit says unto the churches; To them that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.”
John 15:9
As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue you in my love.
God’s Purpose for Creating People is that He be glorified.
God’s Purpose is not:
Preaching
Programs
Personalities
Practices
Problems
Projects
Praise
Prayer
This is in no way, shape, form or fashion discounting Preaching, Programs, Personalities, Practices, Problems, Projects, Praise or Prayer!
EACH HAS THEIR PLACE. Never-the-less:
God’s Purpose for Creating People is that He be Glorified.
- You give preeminence (priority) to whom You Love.
Colossians 1:18
And He (Christ- God The Son) is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence (priority).
- When You give preeminence (priority) to whom You Love, You Glorify them.
1st Corinthians 10:31
Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God.
- Glorifying God will result in Christ’s Joy remaining in You and a life of Full Joy!
John 15:11
These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
Real men have Godly character
The Difference Between Character and Reputation by William Hersey Davis

Character is the one thing we make in this world and take with us into the next.
The circumstances amid which you live determine your reputation;
The truth you believe determines your character.
Reputation is what you are supposed to be;
Character is what you are.
Reputation is the photograph;
Character is the face.
Reputation comes over one from without;
Character grows up from within.
Reputation is what you have when you come to a new community;
Character is what you have when you go away.
Reputation is made in a moment;
Character is built in a lifetime.
Your reputation is learned in an hour;
Your character doesn’t come to light for a year.
Reputation grows like a mushroom;
Character grows like the oak.
A single newspaper report gives you your reputation;
A life of toil gives you your character.
Reputation makes you rich or makes you poor;
Character makes you happy or makes you miserable.
Reputation is what men say about you on your tombstone;
Character is what angels say about you before the throne of God.
~ William Hersey Davis
In Summary:
Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a person, if they shall gain the whole world, and lose their own soul?
Godly character is following God no matter what the cost.
Godly character is faith in God when You don’t sense Him.
Godly character is obeying God when the world’s opinion is contrary to His word.
Godly character is abiding in the anointing instead of giving in to deception.
Godly character loves without demanding love in return.
It is joy amidst uncertainty, peace within disturbance, long-suffering when others
would loose patience, gentle to everyone, good in everything, dependable, courteous and
considerate of other people, able to submit to the Holy Spirit to bring under control one’s affections and lust.
Godly character is Godliness.
